How to kill Mac OS-X login session via terminal

Often times some of our customer call us stating that they lost their screen sharing session and cannot reconnect.

This usually means that the user session hung, but it is not impacting the systems operability.

To restore the session:

ssh to the system

type

ps -Ajc | grep loginwindow

Take note of the PID and type

sudo kill

Screen sharing should now be operational.

Thank you

How to Enable Postfix SMTP server on OS-X Leopard

Postfix is pre-installed on OS-X Leopard, it just needs to be enabled. To do so follow these steps:

open a terminal session
type: sudo vi /System/Library/LaunchDaemons/org.postfix.master.plist
before the tag /dict type: RunAtLoad KeepAlive

Start the Postfix service with:

sudo launchctl
launchd% start org.postfix.master

Test to see if SMTP is running with

telnet localhost 25
